Rosary Miracle – Safe in the Midst of Hiroshima Nuclear Blast !!

12 06 2008

There was a home eight blocks (about 1 kilometer) from where the A-Bomb went off in Hiroshima Japan. This home had a church attached to it which was completely destroyed, but the home survived, and so did the eight German Jesuit missionaries who prayed the rosary in that house faithfully every day.  These men were missionaries to the Japanese people, they were non-military, but because Germany and Japan were allies during WWII they were permitted to live and minister within Japan during the war.  Not only did they all survive with (at most) relatively minor injuries, but they all lived well past that awful day with no radiation sickness, no loss of hearing, or any other visible long term defects or maladies.

You see, several people would say that because the Urakami Cathedral was at the epicenter of the blast at Nagasaki, while a Shinto shrine was shielded by a mountain from a blast, it means that “Christianity is Unfavourable”

On the contrary!

A person can run away from the painful reality and blaming things and people other than themselves; Didn’t you hear about how Christians were willing to put the welfare of others before themselves when a doctor checked up on the atomic blast? That took great strength and courage, and that converted the doctor to our Faith.

It is the destiny of Christians to follow Christ in His suffering and His resurrection! And thus, if it was the will of God to have the most horrible things happen to his flock, there is a reason for it. The Martyrs did not run away from their fate nor did they renounce their faith.

Imagine! Takashi Nagai would not have been moved into a passionate service unto the Lord through service through his fellow Man, if the bomb were not dropped; Humanity would have not been humbled by their own mistakes, had that terrible thing not occurred! War would have still been considered to the last Japanese person.

The bombing is wrong, and nothing can justify it no matter what reason people put up- but one cannot undo the past, and we are powerless but to accept it as the Will of God, and to learn from it in order to improve ourselves rather than be embittered with our “Could’ve”s and “Would’ve”s and other things that are utterly divorced from reality.

Likewise, the reason why the priests survived isn’t just because they were holy! It was because the Lord intended for them to meditate upon the sanctity of life and why it is always wrong to take life regardless of any reason. Perhaps the reason they lived is so that people like us can relate their story and get inspiration from it.

Praise God Almighty, The Lord, The Giver of Life!
