I am not really a fan of anime but this caught my attention and I thought oh how nice a decent normal story with a Catholic side. Then I read more and found out some people claim the series has homoerotic themes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria-sama_ga_Miteru
From the wikipedia page ”
This lily imagery is also used as a reference to yuri: the story has some elements of romance between female characters; the use of lilies reinforces this in subtext, as do the names of the student council and of the school itself. The series is only explicit about this sort of relationship once in a flashback, but many of the sisters have relationships that go beyond simple friendship.”
One of the reasons I am not very interested in anime is just what Maria sama ga miteru has, a somewhat hidden perverse side, often involving school girls. The sexualization of school girls is one thing I find disgusting about Japan. It occurs too often in anime, and even in general society you don’t even have to be looking for it to find it.
