Rosary Miracle – Safe in the Midst of Hiroshima Nuclear Blast !!

There was a home eight blocks (about 1 kilometer) from where the A-Bomb went off in Hiroshima Japan. This home had a church attached to it which was completely destroyed, but the home survived, and so did the eight German Jesuit missionaries who prayed the rosary in that house faithfully every day.  These men were missionaries to the Japanese people, they were non-military, but because Germany and Japan were allies during WWII they were permitted to live and minister within Japan during the war.  Not only did they all survive with (at most) relatively minor injuries, but they all lived well past that awful day with no radiation sickness, no loss of hearing, or any other visible long term defects or maladies.

Maria Sama ga Miteru

12 06 2008

I am not really a fan of anime but this caught my attention and I thought oh how nice a decent normal story with a Catholic side. Then I read more and found out some people claim the series has homoerotic themes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria-sama_ga_Miteru

From the wikipedia page “

This lily imagery is also used as a reference to yuri:[5] the story has some elements of romance between female characters; the use of lilies reinforces this in subtext, as do the names of the student council and of the school itself.[5] The series is only explicit about this sort of relationship once in a flashback, but many of the sisters have relationships that go beyond simple friendship.”

One of the reasons I am not very interested in anime is just what Maria sama ga miteru has, a somewhat hidden perverse side, often involving school girls. The sexualization of school girls is one thing I find disgusting about Japan. It occurs too often in anime, and even in general society you don’t even have to be looking for it to find it.
